Abstract:
In this research, it is studied whether social self efficacy expectation and irrational beliefs have an effect on the loneliness of secondary school students. The research is carried out with 445 students studying in secondary schools in Gaziantep. Social Self Efficacy Expectation Scale, Irrational Beliefs Scale and Children's Loneliness Scale are used in the research. Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, Multiple Regression Analysis and MANOVA are used as statistical methods. It is found that social self efficacy expectation and irrational beliefs has an effect on loneliness. The Multiple Regression Analysis applied indicated that irrational beliefs and social self efficacy expectation explain 21.3% of the total variance in loneliness. According to the results of the correlation analysis, it is found that there is a significant relationship between loneliness and both social self efficacy expectation and irrational beliefs. Although there is a significant negative correlation between social self efficacy expectation and loneliness, there is a significant positive correlation between irrational beliefs and loneliness. According to MANOVA analysis girls studendts social self efficacy expectation score are higher than boys score, boys students lonelines score are higher than girls score. Both social self efficacy expectation and irrational beliefs contribute to the loneliness of secondary school students.
