A RESEARCH ON THE EFFECT OF INDIVIDUALS’ NEED FOR COGNITION ON INFORMATICS LITERACY

Abstract:
Our daily lives are framed with computers and internet as a result of advancement at information and communication technologies. Beyond traditional literacy, being a informatics literate has become an obligation to keep up with to this new world order. It is considered that an individual’s informatics literacy level and interest to this qualification are related with this individual’s need for cognition level. Within this context it has been researched if individuals’ need for cognition levels effect informatics literacy and in terms of this study Marmara Univercity Vocational High School students were asked a questionnaire including Need for Cognition and Informatics Literacy Scales. In consequence of conducted analysis, it has been identified that a positive and significant effect of need for cognition level on informatics literacy level. Also within the scope of calculated need for cognition scores, it has been observed that individuals with high need for cognition have higher informatics literacy levels in comparison to individuals with low need for cognition.
